The story of the miraculous evacuation of Allied soldiers from Belgium, Britain, Canada and France, who were cut off and surrounded by the German army from the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk between May 26th and June 4th 1940 during World War II.

Beach Bombing
As soldiers stand on the beach a plane is heard. It drops bombs, the soldiers hit the ground, and we see the bombs falling toward Tommy (Fionn Whitehead). He is spared and stands back up with the rest of the soldiers as they realize they are fully exposed with no air force to defend them.

Torpedoed
As the men attempt to escape Dunkirk, a torpedo strikes the boat leading to its sinking. The men are thrown from the deck (others jump or are still within the boat but underwater) and underwater shots show men drowning and being saved by Gibson (Aneurin Barnard).

I'm Not Going Back
British civilian Dawson (Mark Rylance), his son Peter (Tom Glynn-Carney), and teenage hand George (Barry Keoghan) are headed toward Dunkirk to save soldiers and pick up one (Cillian Murphy) in the water from a wrecked ship. The soldier, shell-shocked, doesn't want to return. George is fatally struck in the head during the disagreement.
